Working on Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

Let me tell you a quick story:

October 2012 I started working with Brian on the Papo & Yo original soundtrack.

This was his first video-game project and it was as close as I’ve ever been to anything related to soundtracks or video game music.

Jump a few months ahead, (about summer 2013) and the Tomb Raider reboot was released.
After playing the game I told Brian: “Dude, I can totally see you working in a Tomb Raider game!!”
A couple years later, guess which project Brian was invited to pitch to? Yep… you guessed it right… FUCKING TOMB RAIDER!!!!!!!!!

It was an A-M-A-Z-I-N-G experience seeing the evolution Brian went through during these years.
Not only getting out of his comfort zone and writing in different musical styles without losing his sound signature, but developing his technique in many other instruments.
How does that relate to me? Well, I had to develop my techniques as well. From mixing rock/metal/alternative bands for several years, to having to push my limits and handle whatever style was needed in the game.
It’s been a THREE YEAR project…
We have Baroque music, various different south american styles, standard “Hollywood” style orchestration (even though it is a one man orchestra), to heavy percussions, to very emotional flute and/or cello pieces…
What a journey it was for Brian and for myself as well, of course!
Enjoy the little making of we put together for the launch trailer music.

The video was shot, directed and edited by Carol Ribeiro
And music is of course by Brian D’Oliveira

Mixed and mastered by yours truly..
