Brazilian metal band Lugubra (which most of the musicians I have been working with for over 20 years) has just released their new, mostly self-produced (I did help a lot at the end), self-recorded (DI guitars, bass, not-programmed electronic drums) album.
This one closes the releases of the year ;) We tracked this EP live (apart from vocals) back in March (click here if you want to know more about the gear used). There are no overdubs other than one song. We kept it as raw as possible and I hope you all enjoy!
This was a fun one to work on: we tracked the instrumentals live in a few hours (just a few overdubs and doubling guitars) and vocals were done on a different day.
Input chain is the same as “always” with Apollo x8p with API Vision strip and Studer tape in all inputs. Drum mics were from a cheap Chinese drum mic kit (I don't even remember the name/brand) but the overheads were a pair of Warm Audio WA84. Vocals through a SM7.
This is a good one, mainly because I was part of the whole process, from rehearsal, to tracking, mixing and mastering AND because it is NOT my typical rock/metal type of project that you see here often. We tracked the song's rhythm section live and Hotel2Tango in Montreal, overdubs were made at Music Salad's studio, and all that in just a few weeks, from start to finish. I hope you all enjoy it as much as I did!
Last year I had the pleasure to spend an afternoon inside a normal rehearsal room with some extra-talented musician friends (Thiago Castro on Drums, Lucas Barnery on Guitar, and Thiago Baumgarten on Bass) and that afternoon generated two awesome tunes, this one linked below and a fully live jam, named “Peanut Butter”
A few months ago I went to a rehearsal room with three long-time friends and amazing musicians from Salvador, Bahia - Brazil. They jammed for a few hours and two songs came out of that jam. This is one of those songs. The setup was pretty simple: Universal Audio Apollo x8p and another silver face Apollo. All tracks were recorded through API Legacy strips and Studer A800 tape, all committed to the recording. No samples were used. The guitar was recorded direct via a Kemper and the bass was also recorded direct, no amps in the room. Enjoy,
A couple of months ago I had the pleasure to mix the live performance of Brazilian Death Metal icon Headhunter D.C. at Dope Smoke Festival (online)
Although my mix is not the one found in the Festival's Youtube channel, the band was able to update the mix for one song that was released for Roadie Crew's Online Festival.
A few weeks ago I had the pleasure to record Montreal artist Catherine Dagenais on a live session at a very cozy shared workspace/artist loft named L'Orbite The song was mixed by my friend Sacha Daoud. Enjoy
